The O Antiphons

The O Antiphons are a series of chants traditionally used across the final seven days of Advent. Each one is based on a particular characteristic of Jesus, and they’re probably most famous for being the basis of the Advent carol O Come, O Come Emmanuel. These reflections based on the O Antiphons were written at the end of the very strange year of 2020 and include musings on Jesus as a blacksmith, the Holy Spirit as a robin, and how, through it all, God is with us…

O Wisdom (O Sapientia)

O Lord (O Adonai)

O Root of Jesse (O Radix Jesse)

O Key of David (O Clavis David)

O Dayspring (O Oriens)

O King of the Nations (O Rex Gentium)

O God With US (O Emmanuel)
